Alexis Maciejewski
Drawing,Painting, & Printmaking
Artist Bio
Alexis Maciejewski is a drawer, painter, and printmaker living in Maybee, Michigan. She is going to receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art at Bowling Green State University in 2025. Her mediums that are used are graphite, acrylic paints, drawing paper, and canvas. The way that she makes these artworks makes a connection into her daily life. Of course, Alexis likes to show the expression onto the paper from the graphite texture. By using the acrylic paints it looks a bit different than the drawings. It stills shows a bit of the texture from the canvas to show a little bit of expression from the paintbrushes. She had enjoyed so much outside of the studio, doing crafts, reading books and spending time with friends.
Alexis has recently been working on her BFA thesis project that should be completed by December 2025. The topic of her work is about self-perception that relates to self-portraits of expressism of the materials that are used for her project. These materials are drawing paper, graphite, and a mirror. This shows the huge importance of a starting journey as a young artist. Overall, her BFA work has been presented in a Gallery at BGSU on December 1-7, 2025.

BFA Thesis Exhibition
This was Alexis's BFA Thesis Project was a seven-drawing of Self-Portraits series. Here is the Artist Statement:
My Artwork highlights the significance of self-perception. I begin by drawing self-portraits. I want to show the movement and mood of lines from the graphite crayon, as well as showing that I don’t need to use AI technology. I like to show my different facial expressions. I’m also trying to figure out who inspires me as an artist.
I make my self-portraits using a mirror so that I can see the difference from using photography. This is a challenge. The mirror lets me see more details and expressions on my face. The materials that I use are graphite crayons on drawing paper. It is so easy to change and erase. I like how graphite shows the energy of my gesture.
The main concept of my self-portrait drawings is to be truthful about what I see in the mirror. I like to show my changing moods as I go about my life. I tried to put as much honesty as I could in my drawings.
The artist who has influenced my artwork is Max Beckmann. This artist has given me so many ways to think about making self-portraits. His artwork exhibits a bold and powerful expression, and his drawings make a strong statement about the events of the 20th century. I am trying to do same thing with my portraits by making powerful and bold marks.
